Thanks for sharing a little piece of personal history and the story of Hershey's chocolate bar. 5 cents does not sound very expensive in today's day and age but back then each cent had immense value. The story of your parents growing up during the "Great Depression" definitely shaped their outlook and the way they prioritized their essential needs over other things that could be termed as indulgence.
I was active in the Typosphere until 2015 but then took a long break, decade long, but have come back again to explore it and pick it up from where I left.
