Thanks for the link. I do like the idea of being car-free, but with the need for closeness to family being the driving factor to where we located, having a car is a necessity as there are no buses to where we could afford a home and getting to the various doctors is a bit difficult when they are over 15 miles away as they were the only ones accepting new patients.
I loved not having a vehicle when I lived in Chicago. Big cities are quite liberating. Lots of walking. Everything you need right in the neighborhood, Rode my bike along the beautiful lake shore path for miles. It's the most human form of existence to be in the village.
Hi Kent! Glad to see you again! I used to follow you at kentsbike.blogspot. I'm kinda confused about this post though. I looked at the referenced articles from jalopnik and AAA, and I think the $712 a month i the average cost *including* the whole ball of wax -- fuel, insurance, financing, depreciation. Still, that buys an awfully fancy bike every year! :-)
