I have a friend who I played softball with -- told me he remembers as a young boy telling his Dad that it was "cold" on a Berkeley winter day. His father, a veteran, replied, "Son, you don't know what cold is until you sit on a hill for five days during winter in North Korea."
I am sure, well as sure as I can be when making something up, that somewhere in Russia there is a guy reading. He discovers this guy called Jack London and his story "To Build a Fire". And he ponders the likeness to a piece by Tolstoy's "Master and Man". And he wonders why London's tale is not as famous as Tolstoy's.
