Haha, a great story and an expensive but valuable lesson! To me a laptop and a thermal printer feels like the same thing but probably working better. Both solutions have a charm that eludes me. Now, going into the park with my Hermes Baby and catching smiles by people passing bye when they see me type on that thing, that's the charm!
I'm a huge fan of thermal typewriters. And, of course, it's Joe Van Cleave's fault. And I think he blames Ted Munk. The EP 43 is one of my least favorite; the most common settings are difficult to find. In the Brother line, it's better to go earlier (EP 20) or later (EP 5 or 7). The latter are my favorites because they don't even have screens, offering a more authentic typing experience. I'll admit, thermal typewriters aren't for everyone. But I think they're magical!
Yeah, they're normally center-positive - which is the opposite of most wall warts today.
ReplyDeleteEven though I <3 everything JVC does, I'm still not going thermal. Might as well use a modern computer!
ReplyDeleteAh, come on! Get yourself a Brother EP 5 or 7. They don't have screens!
