I heard a statistic - maybe five years ago- that 80% of the Engineering graduates at UC Berkeley (a highly theoretical program) went on to work in Finance. Sad, but true. My son was not surprised because he thinks that it is easy to master Excel spreadsheets to make a lot of money. A lot of turnover too. What is sad is that we need people to analyze and solve problems. Leo graduated from Cal Poly, (motto: "Learn by doing") and has a much greater 'hands on approach.' to work than most engineers graduating these days.
Oh, such a good analysis! This should be promoted.

ReplyDeleteWell said! The old dilapidated neighborhoods wouldn't be that way if people cared about maintenance. P.S. Your blog is awesome!
