What follows may be an instance of "Much ado about nothing".
Just a point to ponder (for me, at any rate), in the first paragraph : -
One sentence expresses an idea that may be seen as a departure from an idea expressed in an earlier sentence.
(A) The sentence " ... we most often use our rationality to justify the option we want to select."
↑ may express an idea that is different from ↓
(B) " ... those people who most pride themselves on their rationality are the ones who have the strongest desire to see themselves as rational. Their rational decisions are based ultimately on this desire. " (A) says that rationality is used to justify an option that we want to select (I add - ie wherein the desire to select the specific option may not be the outcome of a rational process).
(B) says that (i) People who are proud of their rationality have a desire to see themselves as rational and (ii) As a result of (i), their rational decisions are based on this desire. (which may be understood as "such people take rational decisions").
The crux of the point may be the definition of a "Rational decision".
