So was it Rousseau, or me, who said, "I love people in the abstract but I prefer them in concrete."? Because I can sometimes understand that sentiment. Not sure it's hypocrisy, as they are two different concepts. It'll be interesting to see whether Johnson comes across as a deep and empathetic thinker or a holier-than-they figure.
